Sri Sathya Sai
KARUNA NILAYAM FOUNDATION

About Us

The Sri Sathya Sai Karuna Nilayam Foundation is a non-profit organization that strives to provide Healthcare, Education and Social Care entirely free of cost to the community whilst also working towards the upliftment of marginalized women through several programs and skills training sessions to provide them with stability, financial independence and ultimately, provide them and their families with a better standard of living.

Our projects are based in the East of the island; in Kirankulam, Batticaloa.

Batticaloa was chosen by Bhagawan because it had suffered tremendously through a 30-year civil war and faced more than its fair share of natural disasters. The conflict produced over 30,000 war widows and families who had lost their homes and livelihood. This community faced another devastating loss when the 2004 tsunami decimated its shores and coastal villages, affecting the area and its residents gravely. In addition, the entire district of Batticaloa has been, and continues to be impacted by monsoon floods and tropical cyclones, leaving the community vulnerable and in continuous need of humanitarian support.

Perhaps it was all this tragic history that brought about the blessing of a facility that not only caters to the direct community, but to the people of the entire island that need free health care, sociocare and educare, and alleviation from what has been the hardest circumstance in our island’s history.

Message from the Chairperson; Mrs Penny Jayewardene

Dearest Friends, Donors and Well-wishers of our Foundation,

We reached a huge milestone in the service to patients in Sri Lanka when we inaugurated our cath lab services in collaboration with the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital cardiologists, nurses, technical staff, and supporting staff from our Foundation. This is the first cath lab to be installed in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. Batticaloa Teaching Hospital has a waiting list of 1500 patients and for the last four years cardiologists and staff from the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital would travel 450 km to Jaffna Hospital to treat patients from the Eastern Province. Patients had to travel at their own expense in public transport to get the life saving treatments recommended.

Today, the Sri Sathya Sai Karuna Nilayam Foundation in collaboration with the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital and with the blessings of the Ministry of Health, opened a new door to fill this long overdue need.

We are grateful to Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai who knew of this need and brought this wonderful service to our Motherland, and to the patients who will be the benefactors. Thank you, Swami.

Without you all, this would not have been possible. As of 13th July 2023, we reached the magical number of 100 patients who would have received Angiograms and Angioplasty.

This is truly a dream realized for the Sri Sathya Sai Karuna Nilayam Foundation, Batticaloa Teaching Hospital, and our patients. Thank you for your support in our life-saving service, all provided to patients totally free of cost.

In gratitude to the Divine for the Grace and Blessings for this wonderful opportunity of service and may the Divine protect you and your families in the days ahead.

Thank you for your trust in us.
