Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital

the hospital with a heart

inaugurated in August 2022

In the island nation of Sri Lanka, 2000-2500 children are born with congenital heart disease annually. Only a fraction of this percentage has the means to seek treatment once identified. With only two hospitals in the entire country with wards dedicated to paediatric cardiac care, the waiting list is endless, with patients having to wait several years for a chance to be treated. However, 10 out of 1000 children diagnosed will not live to see their first birthday. As each year passes, those on the waiting list bear the burden of unpredictability, weighing them down with fear, as they wait, unsure if their child’s heart will stay beating tomorrow.

As the waiting list continues to grow, a need for a cardiac hospital was apparent. Thus, through the donations of well-wishers from across the world, the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Super Speciality Hospital was established, in the east of the country. This hospital located in Kirankulam, Batticaloa, boasts no cash counter, offering all of its services, from consultations to surgery, completely free of cost.

Having completed phase 01 of the three-part construction plan, the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Super Speciality Hospital was inaugurated on the 09th of August 2022 by Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai; a humanitarian and spiritual leader, who has been at the helm since the very beginning, guiding this project every step of the way. The ground floor of this hospital houses a cardiac operating theatre, an ICU unit, a 25-bed ward in addition to several other facilities.

The first set of paediatric cardiac surgeries were successfully carried out in September, by a 25-member medical team led by Dr Ragini Pandey from the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Nava Raipur, India.

The Cath Lab Facility of the Sanjeevani Hospital, the first ever Cath Lab facility within the entire Eastern Region of Sri Lanka, was inaugurated on the 1st of June 2023. The state-of-the-art Philips Azurion 7M12 Cath Lab was donated by the Divine Will Foundation, USA. Cath Lab procedures are done in collaboration with doctors from the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital, every Tuesday and Thursday, completely free of cost.

For the past several years, the doctors and staff would travel to Government Hospitals in Kandy and Jaffna to perform treatments on patients from the Eastern Province and all patients had to travel at their own expenses for their treatments, which most could not afford. The opening of such a facility within the Eastern Region, providing all services completely free, is an incredible boon for the country.

The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Sri Lanka is the first hospital within the global Sanjeevani Hospital chain to have started adult cardiac procedures.
