Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani
Super Speciality Hospital

the hospital with a heart

inaugurated in August 2022

In Sri Lanka, 2000-2500 children are born with congenital heart disease annually. Only a fraction of this percentage has the means to seek treatment once identified. With only two hospitals in the entire country with wards dedicated to paediatric cardiac care, the waiting list is endless, with patients having to wait several years for a chance to be treated. However, 10 out of 1000 children diagnosed will not live to see their first birthday. As each year passes, those on the waiting list bear the burden of unpredictability, weighing them down with fear, as they wait, unsure if their child’s heart will stay beating tomorrow.

As the waiting list continues to grow, a need for a cardiac hospital was apparent. Thus, through the donations of well-wishers from across the world, the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Super Speciality Hospital was established, in the east of the country. This hospital located in Kirankulam, Batticaloa, boasts no cash counter, offering all of its services, completely free of charge.

Having completed phase 01 of the three-part construction plan, the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Super Speciality Hospital was inaugurated on the 09th of August 2022 by Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai and Mr. Aravinda De Silva, former international Sri Lankan cricketer. The ground floor of this hospital houses a cardiac operating theatre, an ICU unit, a 25-bed ward in addition to several other facilities.

The first set of paediatric cardiac surgeries were successfully carried out in September 2022, by a 25-member medical team led by Dr Ragini Pandey from the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Nava Raipur, India.

Additionally, with the Foundation’s aid, three children received their life-saving heart surgeries in the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Raipur, India in November 2022.

In 2024, the Foundation also sponsored 10 children suffering with CHD along with their mothers to travel to the Sanjeevani Hospital in Mumbai for their surgeries.

In 2023, the Sanjeevani Hospital inaugurated the Eastern Region’s first Cath Lab facility, with the state-of-the-art Cath Lab donated by the Divine Will Foundation, USA. This facility is also the first of its kind within the global Sanjeevani Hospital chain, pioneering adult cardiac procedures in Sanjeevani Hospitals.

In the past few decades, to treat Eastern Region patients needing Cath interventions, doctors and medical staff from the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital would travel to the closest Cath facility, located over 400kms away at the government hospital in Jaffna. The establishment of the Sanjeevani Cath Lab facility in the heart of Batticaloa ensured patients from the East were no longer required to travel great distances for treatment, a costly, time-consuming, and often impossible journey.

The Cath Lab facility is in operation under the expert hands of Dr Vinothan, Dr Franics and their incredible medical team from the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital along with assistance from the Sanjeevani staff, thrice a week, completely free of charge. CSSD and ETO Sterilization services to Sanjeevani are being provided by Dr Muraleeswaran and staff from Kalmunai Base Hospital and Mr Ravin Wickremasinghe from Ruhunu Hospital, Galle.

Within 02 years, the Sanjeevani Hospital has successfully completed over 2900+ Cath interventions, performed completely free of charge, with a 100% success rate.

Patient Testimonials

Man who received Cath Intervention and his family.JPG
Thanks to Sanjeevani, I finally had my Cath procedure. My health improved immensely, and I felt revived after the treatment. The Cardiologists were able to treat all three of the blocks in my heart. Now, after so many years of struggle, I feel healthy and normal.
